SOCORRO - AN INLAND PARADISE OF ORIENTAL MINDORO
TOPOGRAPHY
A major portion of the entire municipality is comprised of lowland valleys which are best suited for the growth of cereals such as legumes and palay. The terrain that extends from the south-eastern portion of the locality running towards the western direction up to the boundary separating Oriental and Occidental is quite high and good for grazing. The town land portion is composed of arable lands and grasslands with some swampy areas. There is brackish water which is ideal for fishpond purposes.
SLOPE
Slope ranges from 0-3 percent up to 15 percent and above. The elevated portions are the barangays of Happy Valley, Mabuhay,Fortuna,Ma. Concepcion, Calubayan, Monteverde, Malugay, Bayuin, Bugtong na Tuog and Pasi I & II.
CLIMATE AND RAINFALL
The municipality of Socorro falls under Climatic Type III which is described as having no pronounced maximum rainy period with a short dry season lasting only from one to three months. Areas of this type are partly shielded from the Northeast monsoon.
ACCESSIBILITY
The Municipality of Socorro is accessible both by land and water. From Metro Manila, it takes about a total of almost 5 hours travel to reach the Municipality of Socorro, 2 hours land travel from Manila to Batangas Port, an hour and a half ferry ride from Batangas port to Calapan port and another hour and a half land travel from Calapan to Socorro.The airport in the nearby town of Pinamalayan discontinue the operation and hopefully re-open to cater passengers bound to Puerto Galera and Boracay. More routes are expected to open in the coming years.
